We are delighted to be releasing ambient-folk trio HAV‘s debut album, Inver, on Folkwit Records on 5 May 2017.
Inver is a delicate swirl of a record, a tangle of gorgeously mangled field-recordings and electronica-soaked atmospherics around a series of live recordings made in Edinburgh, Newcastle and the fishing village of Cullen. The album welcomes you in from the rain, offers you a whisky and then gently captures your heart.
Featuring guest appearances from acclaimed singer/songwriter Beccy Owen (Sharks Took The Rest / Joy Atlas) and members of the Burntisland Pipe Band.
“…on their debut album, Inver, HAV make music that seamlessly combines the instrumentation and feel (and some of the tunes) of Scottish folk music with delicately atmospheric ambient electronica and field recordings and it is quite simply beautiful. Alternately bracing and embracing, it really seems to capture the feeling of the landscapes I grew up in, while also making the past (traditional songs like Loch Tay Boat Song, Peggy Gordon etc) feel present and the present timeless; which is surely what folk music is all about.”
– Will Pinfold, Music Journalist
“Their first album as a trio brings together strands of atmospheric electronica and traditional folk for a release that is in large parts instrumental, but steeped in a lyricism that enchants throughout. The results are akin to finding that the snug in your favourite pub has had its fire lit and is blazing away on the coldest of days. Beautiful.”
– The Crack Magazine
“Inver is superficially a simple album but its still waters run deep. I can do no more than recommend it to your attention.
– Dai Jeffries, Folking.com
“Traditional instruments rub shoulders with field-recordings, curiously idiosyncratic electronics meander around, while softly engaging vocals appear, carefully woven into the soundscape…intense, atmosphere-generating music.”
– Charlie Elland, Folkwords
Look out for upcoming reviews in fRoots, R2/Rock’n’Reel and Folk Radio UK who are featuring it as ALBUM OF THE MONTH.

HAV is singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Alex Ross, multi-instrumentalist /producer/ambient sound guru Jonathan Bidgood, and bass player Ian ‘Dodge’ Paterson.
The trio met 20 years ago and been taking time out from other projects to meet up, drink whisky and play music together ever since. This is the result of their (oft whisky fuelled) endeavors.
Individually, the members of HAV have been championed by BBC1 Introducing, BBC6, BBC Radio 2, & BBC Radio 4. They’ve shared stages with the likes of John Grant, Nitin Sawhney and The Comedy Store Players. This debut album sees the band distilling their varied influences, and years of friendship, into an exciting new sound.
HAV is the Danish word for Sea. Inver is a Gaelic word meaning ‘a confluence of rivers’.
